Takeover Target and Royal Ascot

Some question the ability to a fair shake at the Royal Ascot Jubilee Stakes and whether or not Takeover Target should be allowed to compete. Though they were invited this year questions arise once again on the never ending mistake of steroids, an area that I feel is still all too grey and needs clarification.

Takeover Target was on HCP in October 2006 when arriving in Hong Kong. According to Janiak the steroid was recommended by the vet; assisting horses that travel abroad. The question lingering is how much of an effect is it having on the horse now. However the steroid has the potential to build muscle it is not guaranteed that it will. The Folks at the Royal Ascot have invited the horse Takeover Target to compete despite the uncertainty around this issue.

Quote: According to BBC Sports Joe Janiak stated “At no stage did steroids give my horse an advantage” He continued to say “ It’s done and we’ve paid the penalty”

Time will tell for Takeover Target. Though there is a lot of questions surrounding her situation, the race must go on!
