Respect injuries to ensure a victory

It was a fall at the Clovelly Lifeboat Juvenile Novices’ Hurdle at Newton Abbot that lead to Timmy Murphy’s shoulder injury. It was during the first flight that the jump jockey got unseated from his mount, Highland River.
After the fall, he was treated on the ground before being taken for x-rays at Torbay General Hospital. The race was won by the all favorite Fongoli under the guidance of the great Tony McCoy.
Another injury case worth mentioning is one where the top sprinter, Utmost Respect is now in intensive care, after having contracted peritonitis after surgery. This peritonitis evolved with the inflammation of the membrane that covers the intestines.
Respect had first undergone surgery to remove gravel stuck in its foot. Though the operation was a success, the horse’s condition worsened with the secondary infection, peritonitis.
Richard Fahey said that it was the surgery for his foot infection that weakened its system and defenses, which in turn lead to its infection of its gut. At present, he is in intensive care and is on antibiotics and pain killers.
While these horses fight their injuries, Aine managed to deny Snaefell a victory at the Belgrave Stakes at Fairyhouse. At first, it looked like Michael Halford’s grey would win this listed race when he hit the front a furlong long. However, eventually, it was Aine who got the best turn of foot to win the race.
