Nigel Dimmer, the jeweler of the family firm Martin & Co. who has been manufacturing a new Cheltenham Gold Cup every year since 1935 has offered his sympathies to the famous owner Raymond Mound for the theft of his trophy won by Charter Party in1988.

A total haul of 150,000 pounds was declared by Mound that included 3 bronze ornaments, a dark wooden clock with gold sides, two silver trophies, a cigarette case and a silver fisherman ornament.

Besides this trophy, the Challenge Cup trophy and Britannia Handicap trophy have been reported stolen from Mould’s home in Wormington near Broadway. I heard that Dimmer made an appeal for the return of the Challenge Cup trophy that Mound had won this year as it was a beautiful silver piece and a part of Cheltenham’s heritage.

More of sentimental value

I heard Mound stated that even if the Gold Cup was melted down, it wouldn’t be worth more than a couple of hundred pounds. The cup was more sentimental in value and not monetary.

In the meantime, Harry Findlay will have to wait till Thursday morning to find out the verdict for his six month warning that was imposed on him by the British Horseracing Authority. He received this warning last month for breaching the rules on the ability of an owner laying his own horse.
