The inaugural Meydan Masters scheduled for March 5 should prove to be a great entertainer with plenty of quality with all the winning riders of the world’s 11 premier races of the past year, and a special invitee competing for the price.

Amongst the many jockeys taking part in the race are Johnny Murtagh and Ryan Moore. Joining them are Dubai cup star rider Aaron Gryder, Japanese star Norihiro Yokoyama, Kentucky Derby racer Calvin Borel, Australian Corey Brown, Olivier Peslier and Zenyatta’s rider, Mike Smith.

According to Meydan board member, Malih Lahej Al Basti, the specialty of the Meysan Masters is that world class jockeys will be representing and competing amongst themselves and not any specific country, for the cup. This concept was coined as he states that with racing becoming more and more an international event, it’s difficult to decide which jockey should represent which country.

Four support races have been scheduled for the meet where the highlight is the recently upgraded Zabeel Mile. This will be the first time that the race is run in 2010 at Group Two level.

Meanwhile, I’m hearing that Wednesday’s meeting at Doncaster is going to be canceled following a scheduled Monday inspection. This decision was taken after a heavy snow forecast with eight inches of snow on the track.
