Johnny Murtagh’s favorite, Moonstone finally managed to win over Colm O’Donoghue’s Ice Queen in the last stride of the Darley Irish Oaks horse race. It was in the Epsom Oaks that Moonstone had ended up second behind Look Here, who however did not race in the Curragh.

With this win in the Curragh, O’Brien had registered his seventh successive Irish classic win, to bring his winning in his home country’s classics to 19. O’Brien was all praises for Moonstone, and says that she would be racing in the Yorkshire Oaks too.

O’Brien is happy to be involved with so many people while the race was a great one with a nail biting finish where two jockeys and fillies gave their best to the race. In fact, he says that Moonstone had run so well that Ice Queen would have no objection to dropping back to 10 furlongs in the race.

In the meantime, O’Donoghue was given a two day careless riding ban when the stewards had looked into an incident that took place in the closing stages of the race in Gagnoa.
